Prevention Placement is an excellent resource for families under stress or changing family situations. Childhaven’s Emergency Shelter can house children from birth through 17 for up to two weeks with parental permission, with or without the involvement of law enforcement or child protective services. Children who qualify for this service include runaways or homeless, pregnant or teen parents, Families in Need of Services (FINS), chronic school problems, current or past abuse or neglect, witness to violence, death of a family member or friend, attempted suicide or mental illness of self, cultural/gender identity issues and family dysfunction/change issues. As a condition of this voluntary placement, the family will engage in the treatment/family plan.
